Grain par Grain (Caroline Ledédenté)

Caroline Ledédenté is the brilliant mind and passion behind the up-and-coming Domaine Grain par Grain. A superstar in the making for sure. As the name implies, she's done things little by little. First, working with natural wine in a few of the top restaurants in Paris and then transfering her love, interest, and energy into making wines herself. So, off she went to the Jura to study winemaking and biodynamics and then to Bugey where she worked under one of the young generation superstars of Savoie, Gregoire Perron of La Combe Aux Rêves.

Caroline decided to settle in Bugey and made her first vintage in 2018 from her .28-hectare holding and the help of local organic growers. She now farms four luscious hectares of jaquere, chasselas, altesse, aligote, mondeuse, and gamay and has a four vintages under her belt. Everything is organically farmed and there are absolutely no additives at any point during the winemaking process.

Caroline's fresh alpine whites and bright joyous reds brim with purity, personality, and a joie de vivre. She farms organically, and uses nothing at all during the winemaking process, including sulfites. The wines are never fined or filtered either. The vitality and expressive detail in her wines is second to none, and it's so pleasing to taste great natural wines like this from Bugey. There is a purity and alpine freshness about them, and she is quite frankly making some of the most enjoyable wines to come out of the region.
