Domaine Labet

Domaine Labet is a small family business located in Rotalier, in the southern part of the Côtes du Jura appellation. 13 hectares of vineyard with vines that come from old mass selections, more than 1/3 of which are over 60 years old, with a very low production of 20 to 40 hl/ha.

Here, Alain Labet in the late 1980s was one of the first vigneron of the Jura to produce Ouillé white wines (like Pierre Overnoy), i.e. wines that are topped up during ageing and made in a more modern style in which oxidation is prevented. The Labet wines made in this style belong to the 'Fleurs' line. The aim with this line is to convey an original expression of the vine, grape, terroir and climate, which is why the Fleurs are vinified in separate plots.

The choice of first Alain and later his son Julien arose from the need for more territorial, precise and well-defined whites. This small revolution has led many other producers to use this method and to make the Jura area a hotbed of extraordinary white wines. 

After working at Ramonet in Burgundy, Julien developed a particular aesthetic taste thanks to which he perfectly understood how to enhance his wines. First of all, starting with respectful and ethical farming, abolishing the use of any chemical substances, a path already implemented by his father but made even more stringent by Julien. Secondly, reducing the use of sulphur dioxide to a minimum, even in the rainiest and most difficult vintages, and making everything transparent for the final consumer as clearly indicated on the back labels of the various cuvèes, a great example of clarity and transparency.
