Sourced from several certified biodynamic vineyards around Lake Neusiedlersee, close to the Hungarian border and the UNESCO world heritage site known as Puszta, an outstanding example of a cultural landscape which preserves intact and visible evidence of its traditional pastoral use over more than two millennia and represents the harmonious interaction between people and nature. The Puszta consists of vast plains where specific land-use practices such as animal husbandry, including grazing of hardy livestock breeds adapted to the natural conditions of alkaline pastures, steppes, meadows and wetlands. Vines are 25 years old and planted on limestone soils.
Claus Preisinger
A surfer at heart, Claus has been making wine on the north shore of Lake Neusiedl in the Burgenland town of Gols since 2002. He converted the vineyards and winery to biodynamic production in 2006, and is Respekt Biodyn certified. Claus vinifies mostly domestic grape varieties such as Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Grüner Veltliner and St. Laurent, supplemented by Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc from both the west and east sides of Lake Neusiedl. Biodynamic faming, fermentation with indigenous yeast, no fining, no filtration and super low (often zero) amount of sulphur added, that’s his minimalistic approach which is also perceived in his famous simple etiquettes: his signature on a white background. Those white labels represent the elegant, vibrant, lively wines. Claus ages many of his wines in amphora rather than wooden barrels, which he views as a conscious step back, a reduction to the essential - the grape and the soil. Reduction, minimalism, and a free spirit are the guiding themes of Claus Preisinger.
