Tucked away in the picturesque town of Dobrovo, just a stone's throw from the Italian-Slovenian border, the Klinec family has been making wine for over a century. Their journey began in the turbulent post-war years, when the family produced bulk wines for local consumption, long before the concept of bottled wine was even a thought. Today, the estate spans 6.5 hectares of lush land in Collio Goriziano (or Brda, in Slovenian), a region with a rich winemaking tradition that blends the influences of the Alps to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the south. This unique terroir, shaped by ancient marine deposits, is where Klinec’s wines draw their distinctive minerality and freshness.

In 1993, Aleks Klinec and his wife Simona took the reins, reviving the estate with a commitment to organic practices and biodynamic principles learned from Michel Barbaud. Here, vines rooted in mineral-rich soils are nurtured with natural compounds derived from the land itself. The result? Wines that express the full spectrum of the terroir, from the sea breeze to the wild herbs that grow between the vines.

At Klinec, winemaking is about respect—respect for the land, the grapes, and the traditions that have shaped the region. The approach is raw and unfiltered: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, extended skin maceration in concrete tanks, and aging in a mix of acacia, mulberry, cherry, and oak barrels. There’s no fining, no filtering, and only minimal sulfur—just pure, unadulterated wine.
