WINE DETAILS

This is a lifted and prettier expression of Pinot Noir, said to be an homage to the winemaker's time doing deep dives of Burgundy. It is drawn from two high elevation sites in the Santa Cruz mountains: Hunter Hill more coastal bordered by redwoods, and Kadlecek Vineyard, close by the winery. This was 50/50 destemmed and whole cluster. The nose opens with tart cherry and blackberries balanced by cedar and gentle earth aromas. The palate is light with tart zippy red and black fruits, cedar, and a bit of turned earth to round out the palate. This is made native ferment with low sulfur throughout, and leans to the lighter and crunchier end of the Pinot Noir spectrum 50% whole-cluster, 50% destemmed. Cherry, blueberry, and earth.

Florèz Wines was founded by James Jelks in 2017. Born in Santa Cruz and raised in Davis California Jelks is a west coast kid. After a decade of wine fascination, attending the UC Davis E&V program, and working worldwide Jelks set his sights on producing wines in Santa Cruz county.

Here at florèz wines we embrace old world technique and sensibility. Everything begins with the vineyards and the best quality grapes.

Some of the vineyards we are farming ourselves using organic practices, and dry farming management. To supplement we source fruit from organically and sustainably farmed vineyards. We work to stay as local as possible to the Santa Cruz area.

We follow through with astute craftsmanship utilizing native yeasts, eschewing additives, racking well but never filtering, a carefully monitored élevage without sulfur and sur lie, and bottling with minimal effective sulfur or less.

Always in pursuit of improvement we hope to deliver wines of pleasure and ease on the body.
