Jean-Yves Péron

Born and raised in the Savoie, Jean-Yves Péron left to study in Bordeaux before learning under legends like Thierry Allemand and Bruno Schueller. But it’s back home, in the steep alpine slopes above Lake Annecy, where his work really comes alive. His vineyards sit between 350–550 meters, on schist soils so steep and unforgiving that working them feels closer to mountaineering than farming. Some of these vines are over 100 years old—fragile, deeply rooted, and very much worth the effort.

Jean-Yves farms organically and biodynamically without worrying about certification. It’s not a philosophy he needs to advertise—it’s just how he works. The vineyards are broken into tiny parcels of Mondeuse, Jacquère, Altesse, and Roussanne, each one treated individually, each one telling a slightly different story.

In the cellar, there are no rigid rules. Reds often go carbonic, whites can see extended maceration, and there’s a clear love for the texture and energy of Northern Italian “orange” wines. Some bottles feel alpine and precise, others a little wilder—but they always carry this tension between lift and depth that’s unmistakably Péron.

He’s also expanding quietly—planting forgotten local varieties, making cider from apples and pears, and slowly building out a small négoce project.

There’s a rawness and honesty to these wines that’s hard to fake. They feel like where they come from—steep, alive, and just a little bit untamed.
