L'Absurde Génie des Fleurs
Tom Gautier and Miha Trifa, two passionate and eccentric young winemakers, made their mark in the Languedoc in 2016 when they created the incomparable L’Absurde Génie des Fleurs. Initially a negoce project, Tom and Miha purchased fruit from fellow vignerons including François Aubry, Remi Poujol, and Julien Peyras. After their first 4 vintages were under their belts, they acquired 5.5 hectares of their own vines. Grapes include cinsault, aramon, carignan, grand noir de la calmette, morastel, mourvèdre, terret, and chardonnay. Despite their romantic split in 2019, they didn't let it be the end of their winemaking project, so they kept their dream alive in a series of garages around the town of Bédarieux until they finally secured a still small, but larger cellar in 2023. Their wines, sealed in quirky, crowned-capped bottles, each adorned with heady esoteric paintings created by Miha and a Romanian name to honor Miha's heritage, speak volumes of their meticulous, post-modern micro-vinification. With big hearts and a more radical approach to life and wine, it's no surprise that the Languedoc and broader wine community have taken them in with open arms.
