Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Carignan from organically cultivated vines in Bédarieux in the Orb Valley of the Languedoc. Grapes are hand-harvested, 1-2 week maceration in vat before pressing. Spontaneous fermentation and aging in vat before bottling unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
L'Absurde Génie des Fleurs
Founded by Miha Trifa and Tom Gautier in 2016 near Bédarieux in the Languedoc, L'Absurde Génie des Fleurs (The Absurd Genius of Flowers) began as a négociant venture before the duo eventually acquired their own vineyards. Their story is one of experimentation, persistence, and a refusal to do things the expected way. Even after their romantic relationship ended in 2019, the wine project continued because the vision was bigger than anything else.
Today, they work around 7 hectares of hillside vineyards on the Causses plateau in the Hérault, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Haut Languedoc. The vineyards sit on clay and limestone soils and are planted with a mix of southern French varieties including Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Aramon, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Terret, and Chardonnay.
Everything at L’Absurde Génie des Fleurs is done with a hands-on, low-tech approach. Vineyard work is manual, grapes are harvested by hand, and the cellar philosophy is simple: wine should come from grapes and nothing else. No sulfur, no additives, no fining, no filtration. Just careful farming, thoughtful fermentation, and a lot of trust in the process.
The wines themselves are as expressive as the name suggests. They are vibrant, floral, and full of unexpected layers—bright fruit, herbs, spice, and that unmistakable southern French freshness. They manage to be playful without being simple, experimental without losing their sense of place.
Miha and Tom's creative expression guides the project and the wines, with free jazz jam sessions often taking place in the cellar to instill emotional vibrations into the wines throughout harvest and vinification. The bottles are decorated with Miha’s surreal, poetic artwork, while many carry Romanian names as a nod to her heritage. It’s all part of the world they’ve created: a little absurd, a little magical, and completely their own.
