Vajčner coaxes something beautifully transparent out of Pinot. Light color, lifted aromatics, but a depth that sneaks up slowly. Think wild strawberries, rose petal, and forest floor, all framed by a soft, savory edge. No makeup, no flash...just pure, living Pinot in its most honest Moravian form.

Martin Vajčner

Martin Vajčner is quietly making some of the most soulful, unforced wines in the Czech Republic. Based in Třebívlice, a small village in northwest Moravia, he works a handful of tiny, windswept plots scattered across the volcanic hills of the České Středohoří. The soils are dark and stony, the air brisk, and the wines — full of life, tension, and subtle depth — reflect that landscape completely.

Trained as an environmental scientist before turning to wine, Martin approaches the vineyard like a living system rather than a crop. He farms organically, by hand, with almost obsessive attention to the rhythms of the place — pruning, picking, and fermenting only when the vines and weather say it’s time.

In the cellar, everything happens slowly and naturally. Grapes are foot-crushed, fermentations spontaneous, aging in old Czech oak and glass demijohns. Nothing is added or taken away. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s honesty. His wines are fluid, wild-edged, and deeply mineral, often showing a kind of saline precision that feels more coastal than continental.

Across the range — from his lithe, nervy Blaufränkisch to the sea-breeze glow of Tethys — there’s a shared pulse: quiet energy, restraint, and an almost meditative sense of place. Vajčner’s work is proof that Moravia’s volcanic soils and cold winds can speak with both intensity and grace when left to tell their own story.
